How can I avoid roaming charges when I use eSiMAZE?

Quick answer

Use the eSiMAZE line for all mobile data and switch mobile data off on your home SIM. Your eSiMAZE package is prepaid, so it cannot run up a bill - but your home operator can still charge you if its line is left carrying data abroad.

Steps

1. Install and enable the eSIM line before you travel.
2. Set the eSIM as the line used for mobile data.
3. Turn mobile data off for your home SIM, and turn off data roaming on that line specifically.
4. Switch off Allow Mobile Data Switching on iPhone if it is enabled, so the phone cannot silently fall back to your home line.
5. Apply the data roaming setting your package specifies for the eSIM line only.

What to check

• Calls and texts sent over your home number still use your home operator and are charged at its rates, even when data runs over the eSIM.
• Automatic app updates and cloud backups can consume a package quickly. Restrict them to Wi-Fi.

Important

Data roaming often needs to be on for the travel eSIM line, because it connects through a partner network at your destination. That is not the same as leaving roaming on for your home SIM, which is what causes unexpected charges.
