How do I know which eSIM is using data?

Last updated: 2026-09-03

Quick answer

Your device decides which line carries data, and it shows you in the mobile data setting. Open your SIM settings and check which line is selected for mobile data - that is the one being used.

Where to look

  • iPhone and iPad: Settings > Cellular > Cellular Data shows the selected line. The status bar shows the active line's name.
  • Samsung Galaxy: Settings > Connections > SIM manager > Preferred SIM card > Mobile data.
  • Google Pixel: Settings > Network & internet > SIMs, where the data SIM is marked.

The setting most people miss

On iPhone, Allow Mobile Data Switching lets the phone temporarily use your other line when it judges the connection better. That can put data on your home SIM without you noticing, and your home operator will charge roaming rates for it. Turn it off in Settings > Cellular > Cellular Data while you travel.

Cross-check your usage

Compare the device counters for each line against the remaining data shown at /app/esims. If the eSIM figure is barely moving while you are clearly online, data is probably going through the other line.
