Can I use 5G with my eSIM?

Last updated: 2026-09-03

Quick answer

Sometimes. 5G is available only where all three line up: your package's partner network offers 5G, your device supports 5G, and you are in an area with 5G coverage. Check the network information shown with your own package - it is not the same for every destination.

What to check

  • The supported networks listed with your package, and whether 5G is noted against them.
  • That your device supports 5G on the bands used at your destination. Regional model variants differ.
  • That the eSIM line's network mode is not restricted to 4G or lower in your device settings.

Where to find the network mode setting

  • iPhone: Settings > Cellular > select the eSIM line > Voice & Data.
  • Samsung Galaxy: Settings > Connections > Mobile networks > Network mode.
  • Google Pixel: Settings > Network & internet > SIMs > select the eSIM > Preferred network type.

Important

A package without 5G on its partner networks will not gain it by changing device settings. 4G is perfectly adequate for maps, messaging, and browsing, so do not assume a connection is faulty because it is not showing 5G. See why don't I see 5G in the status bar.
