Using & Managing eSIMs

Do any apps or websites restrict access while using an eSIM?

Last updated: 2026-09-03

Quick answer

Occasionally. Your eSIM connects through a network at your destination, so services see you as being in that country. Some apps and websites behave differently as a result - that is a policy of the service or the country, not a fault with the eSIM.

What you might notice

  • Streaming catalogues change, or content becomes unavailable in that country.
  • Banking apps ask for extra verification, or block access from an unexpected country.
  • Some websites are restricted by local law at your destination.
  • Some third-party services, such as banks, airlines, and websites, may send security or verification texts to your usual mobile number. Keep your home line available if you need to receive those messages. Any voice or SMS allowance included with your travel eSIM is separate and cannot receive a message that was sent to your usual mobile number.

What helps

  • Set up any banking or authenticator app before you travel, and prefer app-based codes over SMS.
  • Keep your home SIM switched on to receive verification texts. See how can I receive SMS and calls.
  • Tell your bank your travel dates so it does not treat the connection as suspicious.

Important

We cannot change how a third-party service treats a connection from another country, and we cannot guarantee any particular app or website will work at your destination. If nothing at all loads, the problem is more likely connectivity - see why is my eSIM not working.
