Using & Managing eSIMs
What happens to the unused data after the validity period?
Last updated: 2026-09-03
Quick answer
Unused data expires with the package. It does not roll over into a new package, cannot be transferred to another eSIM, and is not refunded.
Why it works this way
Travel packages are sold as a fixed allowance for a fixed window. The allowance is reserved for that window, so anything left at the end lapses rather than banking forward.
How to avoid wasting data
- Choose an allowance and duration that match your trip rather than buying the largest option by default.
- Where a top-up is available, start with a smaller package and add data if you need it. See how can I top up an eSIM.
- Check remaining data during your trip at /app/esims.
Important
A top-up added to a running eSIM follows that eSIM's validity rules. Adding data does not by itself extend the number of days unless the top-up says it does, so check before buying late in the period.
